What a headache? *Sigh* Do not worry, it is only temporary.

What is Baby Acne?

Baby Acne is small reddish colored bumps that may appear on your infants face. Baby Acne may seem to be horrible, its unattractive appearance will scare the sh*t out of you. Baby acne is very common, it usually develops around two to four weeks after giving birth. Experts say it is caused by the hormones that the baby receives from the mother at the end of the pregnancy. Also, if the mother is taking medication while breastfeeding that may also trigger the acne.

How long will it last? It may last up to a few weeks and go away on its own or it may last for a few months. If your baby’s acne lasts for a few months then you might want to get in contact with your child’s pediatrician. Your child’s pediatrician will determine if it’s caused by another condition such as eczema or cradle cap.

Symptoms may include:

  • Small reddish colored bumps on the forehead, cheeks, and nose.
  • Sometimes small reddish colored bumps may be located on the chin or the back, as well.

(When the baby is hot or irritated you may notice it more.)

Over-The-Counter Treatment:

The pediatrician will most likely prescribe a mild medication such as Hydrocortisone for you to use on the acne for approximately one-four weeks. (Depending on the severity of the baby’s acne).

Home Remedies:

When my daughter had baby acne for approximately for the first two-three months, I used baby Aveeno to wash her hair and body. I washed her face with a Luke warm rag (no soap on it), I used coconut oil in her hair as well. It seemed like the baby acne was bringing on cradle cap. I had to fight it somehow, as a mother, we are labeled the protector.

My OBGYN suggested that I should dab some breast milk on a clean cloth and lightly dab the acne on my daughters face. She said that it has actually worked for a couple of women. Honestly, I never tried it. I’ve read from googling it that it has worked wonders for getting rid of baby acne.
