Always keep your natural hair moisturized by using organic products such as coconut oil, shea butter, extra virgin olive oil, and other types of all-natural products. You can actually pick up the organic and natural oils from the health food store or supermarket. (I purchase organic coconut oil and extra virgin olive oil from the nearby supermarket every time we go food shopping in my household.)

You can even use a leave-in conditioner as a moisturizer as well. (My absolute favorite leave-in conditioner is Cantu Shea Butter Leave-In Conditioner.)

Cut those ends –

Clipping your ends will not only make your hair appear more voluminous but it surely will even eliminate those shedding ends. Whenever your hair starts to shed, that’s not good. It will definitely make you feel as if you are a poodle.

Make an effort to start clipping your ends just about every 90 days, to dispose of those shedding ends. Nobody likes when their hair begins to shed.

You could head to the beauty salon and pay for this treatment, or you can do it yourself without spending a dime. Everybody loves FREE, just do not chop it all off. You could also find a close friend to help you with the back of your hair.

Protective Styles –

Keep your natural hair in protective styles. Protective styles will help you grow and strengthen your hair.

These styles can be:

  • Braids
  • Twists

When doing protective styles please avoid rubber bands. Rubber Bands can promote breakage and shedding. Try less harmful bands such as scrunchies and elastic bands.

Satin Bonnets / Satin head scarves –

Purchase a satin bonnet or a satin head scarf to help protect your natural hair from shedding. Satin bonnets and satin head scarves can help keep your hair moisturized.

Try using the bonnet or headscarf at bed time.

Minimal heat usage-

Keep the heat using to a minimum. You can damage your hair from using too many heat products, such as flat irons and blow dryers.

If you feel like it’s a must, then try using a flat-iron once a month and using the blow dryer on the cool setting. (A lot of blow dryers have a cool setting on it.)

Also use a heat protectant spray on your hair before using heat. They have heat protectant sprays at your local beauty supply store.

Minimize gel usage –

Gel tends to flake up your hair and create dandruff. It will dry out your hair. When using gel, please mist your hair with water so that the gel won’t dry out your hair.

Also, if you must you gel, use a gel that includes natural products such as ECO-gel or make your own Flaxseed gel. (For more information about creating your own Flaxseed gel, search on YouTube, youtube is great for tutorials.)

Intake of healthy foods and manage habits –

Eating healthy and drinking plenty of water can assist you with promoting growth for your hair. Aside from eating healthy you should also manage your bad habits.

Bad habits such as:

  • Smoking
  • Drinking large quantities of liquor
  • Eating junk food

..can contribute to your hair shedding, breaking off, and slowing down your hair growth rate.

Try not doing these things so frequently, as hard as it may sound.
